At Genesis there is nothing more important than the care service users receive. We want to constantly be creating a culture where care is person-centred and most importantly dignified. We do not just want to be charity that families and carers feel provide activities for disabled adults near me, but one that also respects service users during these activities. We always make sure to ensure all the practises at Genesis are ones that respect the dignity of every individual with a disability. In order to do this we take part in every event possible that celebrates dignified care for adults with disabilities.
This Dignity Awareness Day we strove to shed a light on exactly what dignified care was for service users and staff members alike. To encourage service users to understand what good care looks like and to remind support workers the principles of the work they should always be doing. There is no one more equipped to know what dignified care looks like than individuals with disabilities that access care on a daily basis and the support workers that are trained and experienced in dignified care. One of the activities on that day was that of Bingo, meaning that every word was dignity themed. Words like respect, choice, independence and care were called out. It was a reflective day where adults with disabilities and their support workers paused to think about how care should look like. As well as it being a fun filled day with lots of activities.
