Day Opportunities
Your life, your choice
At Genesis Orwell Mencap, we support adults with disabilities to live their lives the way they choose through our day care services. We offer two types of disability day care as we understand that care isn’t one size fits all, so we have work experience based care in our two social enterprises, the Green Bike Project and our garden furniture workshop, alongside our classic day care for disabled adults.
We have extensive facilities including two sensory rooms, a large landscaped garden, a dignified personal care room, a fully equipped IT room, a diner that serves cooked meals, an art room with an inspirational art tutor, and a fully furnished kitchen with a cooking tutor.
There is always a great buzz around the place. Not surprising really, when we offer such a wide range of activities every single day. We support you to choose what you want to do!
You will be encouraged to choose and plan your own timetable of activities. Our staff are trained to use alternative and augmentative communication methods to ensure that every customer is listened to, understood and can communicate exactly what they would like to do each day.
Here are just some of the activities that we support our customers in.

Our minibuses afford many opportunities for you to access facilities in the community such as leisure centres, swimming pools, bowling, shopping, and restaurants.
If you prefer quiet, relaxing activities, we can support you in that too. We have two sensory rooms with full wheelchair access and hoist equipment that provide both relaxation and stimulation - great places to chill out! For those sunny days we have a large landscaped garden, complete with a summerhouse, football goals, accessibility swings and vegetable patches.

Day Opportunities in our Garden Furniture Workshop
You can learn new skills through our social enterprise opportunities, including our award winning Garden Furniture manufacturing workshop, which provides work experience activities for adults with disabilities, aimed at encouraging inclusion, raising awareness and changing attitudes.
Every stage of the construction process is carried out under the watchful eye of exceptionally skilled training staff. Our workshop teaches life skills and provides training opportunities, the ideal grounding for those able to move onto paid employment.
Day Opportunities in our Green Bike Project
Our Green Bike Project offers a work-based day care service, so if you like to keep your hands busy and working within a supportive team of people, this is the place for you. You will be given training on how to refurbish bicycles in a pace and style that suits you, a source of interesting and valuable work experience. Whether you want to simply make new friends or try something a little bit different we can help.
