This January everyone at Genesis celebrated International Kite Day, a holiday where we say goodbye to winter and happily welcome the summer seasons that will soon be upon us. As brilliant as the Christmas period has been at Genesis it was nice to mark the occasion of the cold months coming to a close.
International Kite day originated in India, but is now celebrated across the globe by many different countries including the United Kingdom. International Kite Day for Genesis composed of a variety of themed activities.
In the art room everyone was able to construct their own kites to be able to fly in the clear skies. Everyone used special wood from the Garden Furniture Workshop, so instead of just being a place for wooden furniture Ipswich they gave a helping hand in this wonderful project. These kites were created from the most colourful fabrics that were handpicked by service users. They were the first but not the final addition to what we did to mark saying goodbye to winter.
In our cooking sessions our service users created the most delicious snacks. As the holiday we were celebrating was Asian, we decided that everyone would bake some Indian flatbread. Service users put together the flour and all the spices together and soon the entire skills kitchen was filled with the wonderful smell of flatbread.
To top it all off we decided to do something special which was to offer every service user the opportunity to have a henna tattoo. This temporary artwork was a way to get in touch with the artistic expression of people of other cultures. The henna tattoos looked beautiful on people’s skin as they were intricately painted onto them. Even the guys from The Green Bike Project got involved in learning how to create the best pieces of henna art on the skin as they took a break from selling bikes for sale near me and got in touch with their creative side.
By the end of the day every service user was able to go home with delicious homemade flatbread, a colourful kite to play with in their garden, and a beautiful henna tattoo to show off to everyone. It was a vibrant and wonderful day. We hope to bring these activities to the young people at our holiday club to enhance the daycare for children with disabilities, Suffolk has seen a decrease in respite provisions for the youth so it is especially important that we make our provisions as effective as possible. From our day care centre, to providing our community with bikes for sale near me, and wooden furniture Ipswich made, Genesis aims to help as many individuals as possible.
