The Rope’s Trust
In 2023 the support Genesis Orwell Mencap’s service users receive will be transformed as we have secured funding for a Speech and Language Therapist. This post will forever change the way their service users communicate with others. The Rope’s Trust, a Suffolk-based grant making trust, have fully funded the post as they saw the potential in Genesis’ service users to develop themselves and improve their lives. This support will transform the learning disability care Ipswich lacks this service of speech therapy in it’s schools and non-profits so we are very grateful to The Rope’s Trust for this opportunity. The one-on-one therapy sessions will drastically improve the quality of life for adults with disabilities. As being able to respond to the world around them through speech is guaranteed to raise their confidence, independence and have more control over their lives. This therapy is currently scarce for adults with disabilities due to the lack of funds through government investment and has meant the disabled community has not been given the support it needs. Genesis will be in the minority of support providers in Ipswich with this service available but due to the amount of service users they have it is sure to make a massive difference.
SALT Role
Corrine O’Leary a Speech and Language Therapist that has had 11 years of experience in the field will be taking up the role of Genesis SALT. She will be using her expertise and will ensure that every service user will receive personalised therapy, draw up communication plans and long-term speech goals for each individual. These sessions will help Genesis understand service users even further as they will be able to communicate their passions, their dreams and their feelings.
Long lasting impact-
This will have a huge step towards Genesis’ goal of creating a total communication environment and being able to offer a quality service for adults and young people with disabilities. We hope that our service users are able to develop their communication in a way that empowers them to be more independent and to make their own choices and thus recieve the best learning disability care Ipswich has to offer.
