Remembrance Day at Genesis

Poppy Making

The week leading up to Remembrance Day Genesis has been commemorating the lives of all those that died on the front lines. As the poppy is the universal symbol for remembrance, the art room at Genesis has been set on creating their own. Everyone put together a number of bold red poppies and green wreaths to hang them onto. The amount of red and green paint used in the art room has been immense and it has all been worth it to see the amazing display outside of the IT room. Any visitors that we have are welcome to see the work that our service users have done to remember such a crucial time in history.

World War History

Later in the week during the men’s group activity session everyone was invited for a presentation on the meaning of remembrance and why we have this day every year. To further understand the importance of what the soldiers of the World Wars went through, everyone watched a historical documentary about the experience of the men that fought and the context of why the wars happened in the first place. Everyone watched intently and support workers communicated to the service users what it would have been like to be in the shoes of the people that served this country in World War 1 and 2.

11/11

Then as Genesis does every year, with the rest the country, we all sat down in the social zone to be silent for two minutes. These two minutes were for all service users and staff to reflect on the soldiers that fought so our country could be free and our democracy would remain intact.

This was an important day and week for our charity. Genesis always wants to advocate for important days like this and spread the word to everyone who joins of what is important to people and the world.
