The Green Bike Project, that repairs second hand bikes in Ipswich was reached out to by Suffolk Baby Bank, about a young child in need. This young boy had unfortunately recently lost many of his belongings, the kind of things that children love like toys and games as well as essentials such as clothes. His situation was dire and the Suffolk Baby Bank were supporting him through this extremely tough time, by attempting to acquire new belongings for him. Importantly, to him, he had also lost his bike due to his disadvantaged circumstances. Suffolk Baby Bank then reached out wanting to know if we could replace the bike that no longer had access too.
The Green Bike Project takes in second hand bikes in Ipswich, and refurbishes them to later sell to the public. But our service users made an exception to the rule, instead of selling the bike, they would instead donate it. Our service users stated that once they took on this new challenge they felt that: ”they wanted to do something that would help someone that needed it”. It made our service users feel extremely good to give back to their local community, whilst also using their skills.
They worked hard to make sure it was a bike that would fit him and for the bike to be a colour that he would love. Our service users put a lot of their energy into building this bike so they could make it and their hard work paid off!
In the end The Green Bike Project, that operates in Ipswich recycling old bikes and refurbishing them, were able to donate a boy’s bike to this young child in need. It was an incredible experience to know they are making a huge difference to a young person’s life. The Green Bike Project values any opportunity to help those in need, and help people in our local community. We were happy to lend a hand to Suffolk Baby Bank’s mission of helping babies, bumps and children in need in Suffolk, and we hope that the boy that we donated too enjoys his brand new bike. We wish him the absolute best in the future!
