We were delighted to welcome our local Member of Parliament Tom Hunt to our Genesis site last week for a Q&A session with our service users.Our Chief Exec, Rob Hart, and two of our service users, Carl and Alice, gave Tom a tour of the site where we organise activities for disabled adults and young people, as it was Tom’s first visit to Genesis.
He got to see all of the fantastic wooden furniture we make in our Garden Furniture social enterprise, and the work our Green Bike Project does in the restoration and recycling of second hand bikes in Ipswich. We also explained that we provide domiciliary support in Ipswich, alongside the care homes for adults with disabilities in Suffolk that we have.
Our service users then got to ask the questions that they had prepared for Tom, including ‘what do you do in your job?’ and ‘what is your favourite TV show?’.It was a great opportunity for our service users to learn more about the work that an MP does, and for them to get to know Mr Hunt better. It was a very interesting and informative session, and we are really grateful that Tom took the time to have a look around and see what we do here at Genesis for adults with disabilities.
After the Q&A’s, we treated Tom to some Irish food as part of our St Patrick’s Day celebrations, as we had a full spread of Irish delicacies, including soda farls, Tayto Irish crisps, and non alcoholic Guinness for everyone to try! Thank you Tom for taking the time to visit us!
