Genesis Christmas Decoration Day
Christmas at Genesis
Genesis always comes alive at Christmas time and this year was no exception. Genesis is a place for Ipswich disability day care, a place to get second hand bikes in Ipswich, a dignified place to access domiciliary care for disabled adults but for this Christmas period it is also a place for celebration. As the festivities began early in December to celebrate the beginning of the festive season. All our service users have been getting into the Christmas spirit with all the holiday themed activities that have been going on. On December 2nd this year it was an extra special day. December 2nd was dedicated to putting up all the Christmas decorations as service users and staff put up the tinsel and trees to mark the occasion. Everyone was also tasked with coming into Genesis for the day wearing a Christmas jumper, the array of jumpers was a sight to see from hilarious to heart-warming it was a way to aesthetically kick start the day. This year’s Christmas Decoration Day was extra special as for the first time in Genesis’ history, we had a real Christmas tree on our facilities!
Christmas Jumpers
The word was put out far and wide that every single service user and staff member had to come in their cosiest and favourite Christmas jumper. So, in the morning when everyone started to come into Genesis’ doors we were already in the festive spirit, ready for an entire day of Christmas celebrations. The Christmas jumpers ranged from sweet and wholesome to people coming in their entire Christmas outfits that caused hilarity to ensue. Everyone at Genesis straight away due to the jumpers was ready for the day to be dedicated just to the celebrations that come with Christmas!
Christmas Decorations
For an entire year the Christmas Decorations have been kept safe and locked away. On that Friday everyone was able to bring down all the Christmas Decorations, the tinsel, the fairy lights, the baubles, and of course the many Christmas trees that are now dotted all over Genesis. As the Christmas Decorations came down, everyone got to work to transform Genesis. Our facilities are large, and we have an extensive array of decorations, so every service user and staff member had to join in to make sure we got the work done. Not a single piece of tinsel was left out, everyone did a fantastic job of getting every single decoration we had put in their rightful place. By the end Genesis looked like the winter wonderland that becomes the festive season we are in. Of course, our service users in Felixstowe that offer domiciliary care for disabled adults and STARS our holiday club that provides day care for children with disabilities will have their very own Christmas decorations day. It was a lovely afternoon that truly marked the beginning of what will be an amazing December for everyone at Genesis.
Christmas Tree Donation
What marked this Christmas as a special occasion at Genesis was also a new addition to our Christmas Decorations. In 2022 Genesis was generously donated a real-life Christmas tree. We are used to getting donations of second hand bikes in Ipswich but a real tree was just as welcome. Since the inception of Genesis Orwell Mencap there has never been a real tree on the premises, the plastic ones have been our trusted Christmas trees. But this year Bypass Nurseries Garden Centre were kind enough to donate this tree for the benefit of our service users and the experience they will have accessed a real life Christmas tree at a place that they cherish. We are extremely grateful for the donation, and it was an amazing experience to see our service users decorate a real tree with all its amazing smells and real leaves. It was one of the best Christmas presents that Genesis could have asked for. There is so much more to come for Genesis as we approach Christmas day, but it was a magnificent start.
